122325 In the middle of several
collaborations that should begin to yeild
fruit in 2026.
122125 "She Caught Car Lights" is on
Nick Tann's Fresh Music Fix's
Stand Out Tracks of 2025.
120325 Skalimba now available for
streaming on BandCamp &
Soundcloud
120125 Got a second mix back from
Pat Tomek. We're one more edit from
being done.
113025 Got a mix for Skalimba from
Pat. Sent back a few comments.

111825 She Caught Car Lights review on
Nick Tann's Fresh Music Fix
111325 Recorded the Christmas show for
SoundCheck. Included the two new JMLP
songs. Sat down with Keith Washburn at
KKFI afterwards and played them again.
111225 A reminder that I sold a Roland
Juno-106 to pay for the mixing and mastering
of Her Bows.
110425 November 13th Patrick and I will be
recording a 2 hour Christmas show for
Chris RedJam's SoundCheck and then
dropping in at KKFI for a 1 hour live sit-down
with DJ Keith Washburn to play some new
music from Girl for Samson and Johnny
Marie & the Lonesome Petunias.
Starting some new collaborations with
local, national and international artists.
Terrifying and exhilarating.
110125 SKThumb is now Skalimba and
has hurridly been sent to Pat before I add any
more parts to it.
103125 Worked on SKThumb all day and
nearly have it finished. Just to need to comp
the lead vocals and off to Pat it goes. Also
needs a new title!
103025 Sent Pat a rough mix of where I'm
at with SKThumb. Hoping to have it finished
and in his hands next week.
102925 Shut Up You Crazy Diamond now
available for streaming on our BandCamp
account. Also on SoundCloud.
102425 Anticipating getting a first mix of
Shut Up, You Crazy Diamond from Pat today.
101125 Dave loaned me an electric thumb
piano a few weeks ago and just had a chance
to play with it today. Recorded a sweep into
the SK-1. Added some famous SK-1 flute,
live drums, 2 bass parts and a sampled vocal.
100725 I've always wanted to do a better
version of "Ordinary Guy" from the Petunias'
2nd album Her Bows. We recorded the drum
tracks for it so it will appear on the next JMLP
album.
100125 She Caught Car Lights out now on
BandCamp and SoundCloud.
093025 Got a good drum take for Swimmers
Shoulders.
092625 Got a fresh mix of She Caught Car
Lights from Patrick with my edits from yesterday.
092525 Got a mix of She Caught Car Lights
from Patrick.
092425 Back on the horse recording-wise.
Got a decent take of Swimmers Shoulders.
Should it be Swimmer's Shoulders or
Swimmers' Shoulders? Miss Taylor! Miss
Taylor! *waves hand*
091825 Tune into Mister Jones on Friday on
Android & Apple, www.smartradio101.com, Alexa,
Virgin TV & MyTuner Radio. Neil will be playing
Girl for Samson and something from the Johnny
Marie & the Lonesome Petunias catalog.
091625 DAW down.
090925 Re-learned Swimmers Shoulders for
next week.
090525 Sent Danny a lead vocal for The
Last Moth.
090325 Sang a few takes of The Last Moth for
a reference track. Wrote the 2nd verse.
090225 Had another go at Who Is This Plumber?
to try to get it down from 12 minutes to 8. We
might have succeeded.
We've had a few challenges moving Pro Tools
sessions back and forth between my old
Windows 7 desktop and Danny's brand new Mac.
The most recent thing we learned is that my
78 year-old version of Pro Tools doesn't want
ANY unknown plug-ins. Most it will give you the
option of buying or discarding but Danny
had some MIDI keyboard tracks that would blow up
Pro Tools every time. Removed them on his end
and all is good.
083025 Failure to Rise on FlyFlew Radio today.
082925 A quick call with Pat for some Shut Up
You Crazy Diamond mixing questions.
082725 Had another go at a spirited live guide
track for Plumber. Got it sorted and left Danny
and Jerry to try to replace the drums with an
isolated performance.
082025 Sent Pat the session for Shut Up
You Crazy Diamond. This is only my second
time in 25 years using someone other than
Patrick Meagher. I've had nightmares about
this day.
081925 We started recording a guide
track for Who Is This Plumber? This is at
least the third time this has happened. I gave
one version to Jerry to finish, we lost one and
then last night's effort. We had a lot of
challenges but should be good to go next
week.
081725 Supposed to be finishing Crazy
Diamond for Pat but I am suddenly unhappy
with the bridge melody so going to at least
give him an option.
081425 Met with Pat Tomek to talk about
mixing the balance of the Lonesome Petunias
stuff while Patrick is swamped with Flower
Pots, Johnny Marie, Girl for Samson and
Telly Tavares songs. Sent him a current mix
of Shut Up You Crazy Diamond and he's up
for it so were going to start with that little ditty
and see how it goes.
081325 Re-learned The Last Moth, rehearsed
it, recorded a guide track and 2 keeper drum
takes.
081125 Getting closer on Shut You Crazy
Diamond. Sang more takes over the
weekend and added piano, acoustic guitar and
synths.
Meeting with a sound engineer on Wednesday
for Petunias stuff.
080525 We listened to Shut Up You Crazy
Diamond several times and signed off on it.
I just need to merge the sessions, re-sing it and
then off it goes.
Here Come The Real Flower Pots out everywhere
now.
072925 Arrived at our space with an unsure agenda
and a keyboard player that we have been talking to
casually showed up. Had a long talk and then ran
through some things. Decided to work with him (and
vice versa) at the very least on finishing these
recordings.
071525 Recorded bass and drums
(simultaneously) for Shut Up You Crazy
Diamond.
I listened to Laundry Day and Lethal Portions,
which were designated ready to be sent off
to be mixed, and now feel that they are too long.
Either need to add some amusements or do
some cutting.
071125 Love appearing on Grove Radio
(98.5 KOGR-LP)
Local Legends list with a lot
of other great regional talent like Get Smart,
Ultimate Fakebook, Amanda Fish, Blacklight
Animals & Headlight Rivals.
Talking to sound designers about
mixing/mastering Lonesome Petunias stuff.
Patrick is buried with Girl for Samson, The
Real Flower Pots, Telly Tavares and my solo
stuff.
070825 Our first session in months.Jerry kept
demanding that we play stuff from The Green
Paino. Ran through:
Little Something
Sweet & Low
Who is this Plumber?
Beat Box Caveat
Mother
Seven Little Eyes

070725 An interview with Nick Spacek
about The Real Flower Pots in the current
issue of The Pitch.
On stands now.
062225 Sent Don Juan to Patrick.
070825 The Petunias gather tonight for the
first time in over a month while everyone
was enjoying some vacation time.
061125 I'm well past the fun part of song
development where you just layer on
everything that occurs to you. I'm now mired
in the carving away and correction stage.
Had a bit of inspiration by starting a
troublesome melodic line at the 9th to force
me out of my ass groove. Worked
wonderfully.
060525 Sent Don Juan off to Danny from
a little spice in the outro.
052625 I was in Colorado a couple of
weeks ago and developed a song with
The Mac on an open tuned 12 string
and John on mandolin. I have it nearly
finished. Some lyric tweaks, re-sing,
drums, hand percussion - off to Patrick.
052525 I sang some backing vocals on
the first Random Angryfish release "Falling"
that is out now.
050525 First session in a couple of weeks
and the last for a few weeks. Mostly did
whimsical style conversions on songs I could
remember - Land Ho, No Limes, You Set It Off,
Repeat, Billy Corgan's Cadillac, Plumber and
so on.
041325 Car Lights is now in Patrick's hands.
I'm going to finish a Telly Tavares song and
then get back to work on some Real Flower
Pots stuff.
041225 Tidied up She Caught Car Lights
to hand off to Patrick on Monday.
040925 JMLP's "Seven Little Eyes" on Radio Ether - San Francisco local bands 80s-90s.
040825 Got bass recorded for Crazy
Diamond. Ran into trouble with drums.
Hope to get stuff sorted by next week.
040125 DAW issues so we just played. Beat
Box Caveat, You Set it Off, Little Something,
The Cats of Summer and some jammy stuff
that I had on my phone.
033125 Getting Shut Up You Crazy Diamond
ready for tomorrow night. 80 BPM!
032625 Happy birthday John Evans, Michael
Meyer and Jupiter.
032525 Dave had another run at bass parts for
She Caught Car Lights since drums were added.
Also did a test run on the new live recording set-up
and found it to be lovely.
032425 Discovered Brian D'Addario (from The
Lemon Twigs) last week. I like his solo album a
bit better than what I heard from the Twigs. The
Twigs are a little like Jellyfish to me. Interesting
song/chord construction, warmly derivative, sterling
performances (especially vocally) but I don't feel a
connection to the songs lyrically. Perhaps a lack
of mystery.
032025 Sorted out some lyrics in Car Lights and
produced the artwork.
031825 Added some more vocals, EP and hand
percussion to She Caught Car Lights and sent a
mix to the Mournful Marigolds.
031625 Jerry is tracking drums on She Caught
Car Lights.

030525 Hey! Why isn't this guy posting more? Did he
get kicked out of show business? Nope, I
just journal in a lot of different places.
Telly Tavares is 2 songs into a debut album:
Girl for Samson just released their 5th
album "Blend All the Seasons."
The Real Flower Pots are a few songs away
from releasing their debut album "Here Come
The Real Flower Pots."
The Lonesome Petunias have some stuff going
on too.
021125 Danny came over to add guitars to She Caught
Car Lights.
021025 I've used a Rode NT1-A Condenser microphone
on just about every Johnny Marie album. I tried a
Audio Technica AT4040 Condenser microphone
and am sold.
020725 Sent the session to Jerry so that he can add
drums to the new song. Danny is coming over
next week to add some jazzy solos. We're
doing this old school.
020625 Added some vocal melodies to the Dave song.
020425 Dave came over and tracked bass on a song that
I recorded on my phone at a rehearsal.
012625 I miss Thomas Montgomery, Cris Walkinshaw, Jill Fetterman and Andrew Oliver. I dream about them all the time.

Johnny Marie and the
Lonesome Petunias have a
song called "Jackson
Browne". You can listen to the
song on Spotify.
Jackson Browne is also the
name of a songwriter who wrote
the song "In the Shape of a
Heart" and co-wrote the Eagles'
debut single, "Take It Easy".
